Biking is at the heart of what makes Portland great. However, the cost of purchasing a bicycle is a major obstacle for many families living in underserved communities. Our annual Holiday Bike Drive as well as Bikes for Kids presented by Fred Meyer provide children with a safe refurbished bicycle, new helmets, and basic safety education.
Bikes for Kids presented by Fred Meyer
Saturday, July 22nd, 2017
10am – 2pm
Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum
Thanks to generous sponsorship by Fred Meyer and the Portland Trailblazers, we’re happy to be providing nearly 200 children with a brand new bicycle. On July 22nd, all of our recipients and their families will join us at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum to celebrate their new bikes, practice safe riding at the Bicycle Rodeo and enjoy visits with special guests. As if that weren’t enough, Allen Crabbe, Blaze, and Fred Bear will be in attendance!
Who can receive a bicycle?
Bikes for Kids presented by Fred Meyer is designed to benefit children ages 3-8 from families living on low incomes who qualify for free or reduced lunch at school and who do not currently have a bicycle. Registration is not open to the general public; only our partner agencies can register children.
How can you help?
Volunteer registration is now open. No experience is necessary to serve during this event, just a comfort working with children and a love of bicycles. We’ll provide training and support all day, plus a nutritious snacks. To learn more about the various volunteer positions, please visit our registration page.
This is a great opportunity for individuals and groups. Volunteers 16 years and older are welcome to participate.
