Biking is at the heart of what makes Portland great. However, the cost of purchasing a bicycle is a major obstacle for many families living in underserved communities. Our annual Holiday Bike Drive as well as Bikes for Kids presented by Fred Meyer provide children with a safe refurbished bicycle, new helmets, and basic safety education.

Bikes for Kids presented by Fred Meyer

Saturday, July 22nd, 2017
10am – 2pm
Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum

Thanks to generous sponsorship by Fred Meyer and the Portland Trailblazers, we’re happy to be providing nearly 200 children with a brand new bicycle. On July 22nd, all of our recipients and their families will join us at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum to celebrate their new bikes, practice safe riding at the Bicycle Rodeo and enjoy visits with special guests. As if that weren’t enough, Allen Crabbe, Blaze, and Fred Bear will be in attendance!

Who can receive a bicycle?

Bikes for Kids presented by Fred Meyer is designed to benefit children ages 3-8 from families living on low incomes who qualify for free or reduced lunch at school and who do not currently have a bicycle. Registration is not open to the general public; only our partner agencies can register children.

How can you help?

Volunteer registration is now open. No experience is necessary to serve during this event, just a comfort working with children and a love of bicycles. We’ll provide training and support all day, plus a nutritious snacks. To learn more about the various volunteer positions, please visit our registration page.

This is a great opportunity for individuals and groups. Volunteers 16 years and older are welcome to participate.

Holiday Bike Drive

Every December, Holiday Bike Drive brings the empowerment and health benefits that come from owning and riding a bike to over 300 children.

Who can receive a bicycle?

The Holiday Bike Drive is designed to benefit children ages 3-8 from families living on low incomes who qualify for free or reduced lunch at school and who do not currently have a bicycle. Registration is not open to the general public; only our partner agencies can register children.

When does registration happen?

Our partner agencies and schools will register children for the Holiday Bike Drive beginning in the fall.  Registration is on a first come, first served basis. We will update our partner agencies and schools list in the fall. Please contact our partner agencies and schools directly in order to register your child.

How can I support the Holiday Bike Drive?

All bicycles are generously donated by community members at our neighborhood bike shop and at bike collections around the Portland Metro area. You can also sponsor a child’s first bike for $50 by making a gift today. Holiday Bike Drive is made possible by year-round support from our volunteers.
