It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Holiday Bike Drive season has arrived!
500 children to receive lovingly refurbished bicycles and so much more this December
We have found that early exposure, education, and encouragement are critical elements of developing healthy, sustainable, lifelong behaviors. A child’s first bike helps put them on the road to outdoor activities and fosters a sense of self-confidence and independence.
Where do the bicycles come from?
Truly a community effort, Holiday Bike Drive bicycles are donated by neighbors all over the Metro area at more than 15 collections throughout the year. More than 1,000 volunteers spend over 3,000 hours cleaning and repairing the bicycles over the course of the year.
What happens at the event?
500 children with their families in tow. 250 volunteers shepherding children through helmet fitting, bike rodeo, and safety education stations in a festively decorated hall. Translators chattering in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Russian. There will be live music. There will be food. It is a circus of bike love.
How can I refer a child?
We work with social agency partners to sign up children for the Holiday Bike Drive. Click here to learn more.
Bob’s Red Mill is raising funds for the Holiday Bike Drive and they are matching donations dollar for dollar! You can make your donation go farther by donating through Bob’s Red Mill PLUS you’ll see the fastest, toughest, muddiest, winningest racers in the Portland Metro area AND there’s FREE oatmeal! We’re not making this up!
See you out there!
I’m busy on Sunday, any other ways to give this fall?
You can always support the Holiday Bike Drive online ($50 sponsors a child, but any amount is welcomed!), at our shop, or over the phone (just call 503-288-8864 and ask for Breesa). And there will be more fun ways to contribute over the next month, including through the Give!Guide (beginning November 12th), and at the Bike Gallery (beginning November 28th).
