Bike the Levees (West Route)
April 28 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
There are 27-miles of levees along the lower Columbia River, extending from North Portland to the Sandy River. The levees reduce the risk of flooding for the tens of thousands of jobs and residences, places of historical and cultural significance, and hundreds of acres of parks and natural areas in Portland, Gresham, Fairview and Troutdale.
Bike the Levees is a unique opportunity to visit and learn about the history and functionality of this 100-year old flood control system, including the flood of 1948 that destroyed the City of Vanport and displaced thousands of people.
Representatives from Levee Ready Columbia, a collaboration of government, business, and neighborhood organizations working together to evaluate the condition of our local levee network will share information about current efforts to modernize the system and its governance to ensure communities and valuable regional resources are protected in the future.
Spanish translation services will be provided.
