Community Cycling Center launches the New Columbia Bike Repair Hub video

By Melinda Musser, Communications & Marketing Manager

Haven’t been able to make it to the New Columbia Bike Repair Hub? Sit back and enjoy this video produced by Dan Kaufman of CrankMyChain! Cycle TV. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the people and partnerships involved in transforming a vacant lot in the New Columbia neighborhood into a Bicycle Repair Hub, a gathering spot for weekly rides, safety workshops, and bike repairs.

The Bike Repair Hub officially opened on Saturday, October 6th. We All Can Ride, a resident-led bike committee, helped fix bikes for 24 residents of New Columbia, the majority of which were children between the ages of 8 and 13, with the support of Community Cycling Center mechanics and volunteers. We had 3 flat-fix stations and 3 quick-fix stations where residents could work one-on-one with volunteers and We All Can Ride members to do basic repairs on their bikes. Some of the more common repairs needed were fixing flat tires, adjusting just about everything from saddles to headsets, handlebars to derailleurs.

The Bike Repair Hub creates access to affordable bike repair, and will serve as a educational hub where residents can learn basic repair skills to keep their bikes riding smoothly.
