You’re invited to a special screening of Remember Your First Bike? at the historic Hollywood Theatre
The Community Cycling Center will be hosting a special screening of Remember Your First Bike?, a film that celebrates the Holiday Bike Drive and all the people who make it happen. Join us at the Hollywood Theatre on Thursday, June 9th at 7:00pm to see the film on the big screen. After the film, stay for a discussion, facilitated by film and bike fun maven Ayleen Crotty, with filmmaker Chad Berkley and longtime volunteers Bob Wong and Leah Haykin.
Tickets are sliding fee, $3-10 and all ticket sales will benefit the Community Cycling Center. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
For even more fun, join us at 6:00pm for a ride from our shop at 1700 NE Alberta to the Hollywood Theatre.
After volunteering with the Holiday Bike Drive for several years, Chad Berkley decided to make a short film documenting all the hard work that goes into making the event possible. “My goal in making this film was to raise awareness of the thousands of volunteer hours that go into making the Holiday Bike Drive happen each year,” noted Chad, “and to hopefully spur other volunteers to start their own community programs.”
Every year, the Community Cycling Center provides hundreds of children from low-income families with refurbished bicycles, new helmets, and basic safety education. It is a huge, community-building event that we work toward all year long and culminates in one amazing day in December.
Holiday Bike Drive bicycles are donated by community members at bike collections around the Portland Metro region and at our neighborhood bike shop throughout the year. This year, nearly 1,000 volunteers will dedicate more than 5,000 hours to help collect, clean, and refurbish the bicycles as well as guide children through bicycle safety activities on the day of the event.
