Thirteen new bicycle commuters
On Monday, January 26th, we offered a Create a Commuter workshop at Innovative Housing, Inc. This organization creates new solutions to unmet housing needs and assists residents in maintaining housing stability, improving quality of life, and breaking the cycle of poverty.
Our five-hour workshop took place at a recently opened, low-income family housing complex. Thirteen residents received refurbished commuter bicycles and the necessary tools, knowledge, and gear to begin commuting immediately.
We are offering ten Create a Commuter workshops in partnership with social service agencies in the first half of 2009. Our goal is to serve 230 low-income Portland residents in need of transportation between September 2008 and June 2009.
