General Position Summary

The Community Cycling Center’s Summer Camp is an opportunity for youth to discover their own city by riding to exciting destinations, learning valuable bike mechanic skills, teaming up with their peers to solve technical problems, and most importantly, building their confidence and self-esteem!

We are looking for adult volunteers who would assist with us and our bike campers. Volunteers will provide support to paid summer camp instructors, assisting during neighborhood rides, activities, games, and educational lessons.

Duties

• Help during neighborhood rides for groups of up to 12 campers (ages 6-13) ensuring safety and enhancing instructor capacity to respond to “teachable moments”
• Assist in implementing the games, activities, and educational plans
• Attend a 3-hour volunteer training (dates TBA, but will be between June 9th and 15th, 2008

Skills

• Educational experience working with youth ages 6-13
• General familiarity with experiential education
• Own a bike and helmet
• Ability to ride a bicycle up to 10 miles
• Criminal background check required

Position Details

Pay: Volunteer
Length of commitment: Any period of time between June 16 and August 29, 2008
Estimated total hours: 6-7 hours/day. Camps run from 9am to 3pm
Location: Community Cycling Center, 1700 NE Alberta Street
Schedule: June 16 – August 29, 2008. Any regularly scheduled week day (i.e., every Monday, etc).  Please see our Summer Camp Schedule for more details.
