We believe that a bicycle is a tool for empowerment and a vehicle for change. The Community Cycling Center is a 501(c) 3 that broadens access to bicycling and its benefits through our hands-on programs, volunteer projects, and neighborhood shop.
General Position Summary
Do you know your way around a bike? Want to share your knowledge and help empower your neighbors? Join our Outreach Team as a Quick Fix Mechanic!
Throughout the year, the Community Cycling Center is invited to various community events including street fairs, community festivals, fix-It fairs and school events. We are looking to build a team of outreach volunteers who will help us offer free Quick Fix Wrenching at these events.
Duties
- Perform “Quick Fix Wrenching” on bicycles at community events. This includes lubing and cleaning, flat fixes, brake and derailleur adjustment, cable replacement, and general inspections; more involved repairs are referred to the bike shop
- Engage community members in learning about working on their bicycles
- Complete brief event evaluations that help us track and evaluate the services we offer
Qualifications
- Intermediate to advanced mechanical aptitude
- An background in experiential education and/or interest in empowering others to learn
- Outgoing and personable
- Enthusiasm for the mission, vision and programs of the Community Cycling Center
Position Details
Length of commitment: At least 1 event
Estimated hours: Varies by event; average 3-5 hours
Schedule: When you join the Outreach Team, you will be placed on a roster and will be contacted by the Volunteer and Outreach Manager as events are scheduled
