Drop-In Volunteers

Joining us at our drop-in volunteer opportunities is an easy and fun way to help out the Community Cycling Center. As a group, we work on a variety of projects benefiting the organization, from cleaning, repairing and recycling bicycles to transporting and organizing bicycles and supplies. No prior mechanical skills are necessary, and we’ll find a project that will fit your skills and interests.

Tuesday Drop-In NightsVolunteers refurbish a bicycle at Tuesday Drop-In Night

Every Tuesday, a community of volunteers comes together to help refurbish bicycles for our annual Holiday Bike Drive. Experienced mechanics share their skills with new volunteers, and everyone has the opportunity to build skills and meet their neighbors while helping us repair over 500 bicycles that will be given away by year’s end.

On Tuesdays, we also take on a variety of projects that benefit the organization – from laminating to light construction to moving bikes – so no mechanical skill is required!

Once they have mastered the art of refurbishing single-speed kids bikes, Tuesday Drop-In volunteers have the opportunity to get certified as Holiday Bike Drive Mechanics. Certified volunteers take on leadership roles during Drop-In Night and are eligible to join our Guest Mechanic Program.

If you would like to join this program, but have not yet attended an orientation, please click here to learn more about signing up.

Sunday Drop-In Recycling

We are committed to reusing the thousands of bicycles and parts that we receive as donations every year. We refurbish over one thousand bicycles for use in our earn-a-bike programs and for sale in our neighborhood bike shop. Materials we cannot use are made available to the community through a variety of partnerships and programs. After every effort to refurbish, reuse and redirect, we recycle those bicycles that are unfit for the road, ensuring that they stay out of the landfill.

Every Sunday, volunteers help us dismantle and recycle donated bicycles and components. Here’s how to get involved:

When: 3-5pm every Sunday
Where: Community Cycling Center at 1700 NE Alberta St.
How to sign up: Once you’ve attended orientation, you’re free to show up!
